Hello team!

Autumn is here! I went to our FB group looking for a photo for the newsletter and 5 out of the first 8 photos are screenshots of the forecast 

We are halfway through the season with a  bit over 50 days until Busselton! It's been great to see so many people showing up at training. If you needed an additional excuse to come to the training sessions, our Thursday running sessions are also becoming the Kelpie Club with Clark, Kali and Gaia coming along for mostly pats but also a run.

Here are the latest updates:

  • Congratulations Flick and Jonney for conquering the Joondalup Aquathlon last Saturday finishing first overall.
  • New t-shirts! We love our gray t-shirts from the club's anniversary, however we think it's time for getting some new ones. We would like to make things a bit more exciting for you, the committee is inviting you to submit a design proposal for our new t-shirts. We will vote for the favourite one and the winner get the t-shirt for free! We are hoping to have the t-shirts ready before Busso. Please email your design to me by Friday 12 March.
  • Free ticket. We have a free ticket available for the X-Adventure Race on April 10-11. Let us know if you are interested in getting it and we will put your name before picking someone at random.
  • Uni Sports Nationals. UWA is now taking expression of interests for athletes to join Team UWA and represent your university on the national stage! As a keen athlete on campus, Nationals is a perfect opportunity to represent UWA and compete against other top Australian universities. See further details below.
  • Karri Valley. Our next race in the calendar is Karri Valley triathlon. All the best to those racing next Saturday 13 March!

I'll see you at training!

President UWA Triathlon Club

What does the science say? é'

Recovery: What does the research say?

Recreational to elite athletes try many different things to aid recovery and reduce muscle soreness. However what does the science show is most effective?

  • Sleep – There is no doubt about it, sleep is the best way to recover quickly. Why is this the case? During sleep the majority of muscle repair takes place. Sleep loss has been shown to disrupt growth and repair of cells1. Aim for eight hours per night.
  • Nutrition – Balanced meals at the right time can impact your recovery.
  • Foam Rollers – A systematic review of the literature found that using a foam roller for massage may help enhance joint range of motion in addition to pre and post exercise muscle performance. Whilst the evidence is not as strong as for sleep and nutrition, foam rollers are an easy and inexpensive way to take charge of your own recovery after you exercise.
